Three-Dimensional Evaluation of Surface Roughness of Wood

Three-dimensional measurement and evaluation of surface roughness was carried out on wood specimens of four species whose surfaces were processed by fixed-knife planing, milling or sanding. Roughness profiles derived from primary profiles were coded by color according to height and visualized three-dimensionally. The colored patterns could be related to the peaks and valleys according to species and processing method.
